Creating a Home
Who We Are
A Safe Harbor in Times of Need
At Gabriel's Horn, we are dedicated to helping women and children experiencing homelessness
rebuild their lives with dignity and achieve independence. We provide shelter, a safe space, and
connections to vital community resources that promote financial literacy, employment opportunities,
transportation, and health & wellness. Our vision is a community where generational homelessness is
eradicated, and families have the resources they need to transition to stable, independent living,
creating lasting stability and breaking the cycle of homelessness.
How We Got Here
Our History
The Board of Directors for Gabriel’s Horn was formed in March 2003 and received official 501(c)3 status in January 2004. Gabriel’s Horn Corporation has grown from seven individuals with no funds to a very active volunteer Board, providing a safe, temporary shelter at no cost, with provision of food, linens and basic supplies to women, with or without children. Information, support services, and referral to other agencies are offered according to individual needs. In April 2005, Gabriel’s Horn entered into a land contract to purchase our current location. Gabriel’s Horn was accepted as a United Way partner agency of Porter County in 2006. This progress has given us financial support and credibility throughout the Porter County community. The shelter employs a small staff that includes an Executive Director and a contracted Bookkeeper and Accountant. Gabriel’s Horn partners with Goodwill and Vantage Aging as a host agency for the House Manager, Office Assistant, and Facilities and Grounds positions. The Board Members volunteer their time and expertise to the organization.
